DIGITAL SLR PHOTOGRAPHY: The Next Level (Part 2)

Prerequisites: Digital SLR Photography: Essentials or equivalent knowledge/practical experience

Course Outline

  • ADVANCED EXPOSURE & PROFESSIONAL LIGHT METERING
    Exposure triangle - situation analysis and prioritising your settings
    Expert metering (metering modes), exposure compensation and AEL (exposure lock)
    Exposure bracketing – shooting with post production in mind
    Using the histogram for accurate exposure
  • FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY
    When and how to effectively & creatively use a flash
    Balancing flash with ambient light for beautifully exposed images.
  • MACRO PHOTOGRAPHY
    Macro tools, tips and techniques
  • DEPTH OF FIELD & HYPERFOCAL FOCUSING
    Using Depth of Field to make your subject stand out from the rest of the image
    Calculating the hyperfocal point in order to get everything in your frame to appear sharp. – Great for landscape photographers
    Understanding sharpness limitations of lens diffractions and aberrations
  • LENS QUALITY & CREATIVE BLUR – BOKEH
    Lens bokeh (the art of create blur)
    Using your lens to create star effects without the need for tacky filters
  • CUSTOM WB & BASIC COLOUR MANAGEMENT
    Custom White Balancing using grey card reference
    Introduction to computer screen calibrations for accurate display of your images
  • LARGE FORMAT & WIDE ANGLE SOLUTIONS
    Panoramic stitching – how to capture images properly and stitch them with ease.
  • DIGITAL POST PRODUCTION
    Introduction to digital darkroom with Abode LR4 (a brief overview)
  • COMPOSITION, LIGHTING AND COLOUR
    A look at the creative elements beyond the operations of the camera
