Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care CHC50113

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care addresses the skills and knowledge required to provide care for individuals and groups of children, and to plan activities facilitating their leisure and play, enabling them to achieve their developmental outcomes. This qualification reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services.

How will I Learn?

This qualification reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services. In doing so they work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard.

Prerequisite

Prospective students must have a competent level of language and literacy to enrol in this course. Students will need to obtain a NSW Police Check and Working with Children check prior to commencement of work placement.

Are there Assessments?

You will be required to complete self study and assessment work in your own time. There is usually a short answer question and small project associated with each unit of competency. Some units of competency require training and assessment of practical skills. If not currently working in the sector, 240 hours of work placement is required.

Work Placement and Mandatory Checks

It is mandatory for students undertaking studies in CHC50113 Diploma of Early Childhood Education and Care to complete a minimum of 240 hours of work placement in a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care setting aged birth – 5 years.

  • 60 hours – 0-2years
  • 60 hours – 2-3 years
  • 240 hours – 3-5 years

Anyone in child-related work (including student placements and volunteers) MUST have a current Working with Children Check (students/volunteers free). Visit Kids Guardian NSW (kidsguardian.nsw.gov.au) for more information on obtaining a WWCC. The college will arrange a suitable workplace for any student not already working in a regulated Early Childhood Education and Care setting aged birth – 5 years.

Pathway to Further Training

The Diploma of Early Childhood Education & Care CHC50113 provides a pathway to a Bachelor Degree in Early Childhood Education.

National Recognition

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) - is a means of measuring skills acquired through work or life experiences or through qualifications obtained from formal studies or training. Any student who believes they may be eligible for RPL must apply for this at least two weeks prior to the course commencing. If you apply after the course commences it may not be accepted.

Unique Student Identifier (USI)

From 1 January 2015 it is a requirement of the Federal Government that all students undertaking nationally recognised training will need to obtain a Unique Student Identifier (USI). This involves an easy online application. See USI Fact Sheet for information on how to apply for a USI or see http://www.usi.gov.au for additional information.

Please ensure when completing your enrolment information, that the details relating to your name are identical to those on the identification evidence used (eg passport or driver’s licence) when creating your USI eg no abbreviations or nicknames should be used.

Once created, it is important that you keep a record of your USI and access to your accredited training records in a safe place. You will need this information for any future enrolments into accredited training in Australia.
