How to Crochet using Plastic Bags

In this easy workshop, bring your crochet skills to the test and learn how to crochet with plastic yarn or ‘Plarn’. Be prepared to be excited, challenged and amazed by what you can do with your crochet hook. Crochet is one of the oldest crafts in the world and is today labeled as the new ‘Mental Yoga’. Research shows there are many health and wellbeing benefits to repetitive crafts such as crochet. Here is an opportunity to learn a brand new technique.
Participants will be exposed to various techniques on how to use plastic bags for crochet. We will use the plarn to make a basket in class. Participants will be exposed to ideas for other projects should they want to pursue these in their own time.

• Technique of cutting bags for making plarn
• Joining for adequate strength to make continuous plarn.
• appropriate crochet hooks and sizes
• Interpreting and reading simple patterns
• Ideas for making simple gifts, small and large projects
• Yarn substitutions to add strength
• Introduction to online resources
• Finishing off your piece

What to Bring

Please note, the tutor requests prior notification from left-handed students. They are most welcome. However, please contact the College if you are left-handed, as the tutor would like to provide you with personalized handouts to help you to master the skills.
What to bring:
Please bring 1 ball of acrylic yarn (DK) in white.
Pen, paper for notes.
Scissors for personal use.
$5 for hook provided by tutor.
